Why is it that mapping out thoughts on a white board is easier then mapping out information on a sheet of paper?

Ok with all the traveling that I do I can pretty much setup anywhere I can find desk space and work, but today I’m totally lost and can’t concentrate on work.

I rolled into my Santa Clara office this morning and when I walked into the control room to setup there was someone from another group setup in my spot. No this spot isn’t assigned to me but the person there knows that I always sit there. If it was someone from the MSO I wouldn’t care because they take precedent over me since they are working on the active network, this person however doesn’t do any work for the MSO anymore they work in the field and they don’t support the facilities for the MSO so for one thing they shouldn’t be in the control room.

So here I am relegated to the common area. I have a desk to work at and a LAN connection, but I never setup out here because to many people walk in and out of here. I can’t use a speaker phone since you can’t have speakerphones in a common area. I’m all turned around in here and I can’t wrap my head around the process and procedures document I’m writing. I know everything I need to put in it but I can’t get it out of my brain and on to paper.

I’m just not used to the distractions that are around me. I discovered long ago that to get my best work done I needed to be in a isolated environment. When I worked in the corporate office I never seemed to get work done. I moved to an MSO with a lot less people there and low and behold I was able to get my work done on-time and the quality went way up. Hell when I’m on the road I lock myself in conference rooms or again the MSO control rooms that way I get work done.

Again I know this is petty and lame. Time to try and get back to work.
