Well it’s good to know people that know cars very well.
Doug helped me out today and we got the front end aligned on the FJ-40. It took about 15 minutes. It’s kinda amazing how easy it is. A marker, a impact wrench, the right size box wrenches, and a tape measure. The wheels were over inch and a half of and when Doug finished they were dead on. Granted the FJ-40 is easier then most of the IFS setups, but still it was nice knowing that we didn’t need special machines to get the rig back in shape.

So yesterday I was driving home in the FJ-40 after a fairly good day. I was taking the freeway for the first time in months since I was late getting to a soccer game.
For those of you that know the south bay area 880 by Stevens Creek is a fraking death trap. I had a jackass race past me in the right in the exit only lane to then cut over to my lane about 3 cars up and the lead car locked up the brakes causing the cars in front of me to panic stop. Which is kind of a problem for me I’m in a 65 FJ-40 yes I have disc brakes all around but the sure aren’t anti-lock. So as I put on the binders they lock and the rear end started to slide out from me so keeping my cool I was able to steer away from it keeping me from tipping over which was my biggest fear. I ended up spinning 180 degrees.
I was almost free and clear but the person behind me in the number 2 lane braked hard and his car pulled to the right and bounced off my rig. I also managed to stall the FJ, I restarted and got to the side of the road. the other guy pulled over as well and there wasn’t a scratch on the FJ-40 the only damage I have is that the steering was knocked out of kilter. So I need to reset the steering what was 12 o’clock is now 9 o’clock. I went to my mechanic and we inspected everything and not one thing is bent out of shape so the steering arm just got readjusted on the fly. I can’t say the same for the Mitsubishi he’s got some damage to his right corner I’m not sure there he hit me since I don’t see any paint transfer I think he bounced off my tire.
In the end we both drove away and nobody was hurt.

Just since I know that the stories spread. Yes I was in an accident on 880 today, I’m fine and so is the FJ-40.
More details to come later.
